Cracks on the facade. Would you like to enter from such slit?

Sumida Hokusai Museum

About a year ago, this geometric architecture was born on the ground to contribute for Hokusai Katsushika (expert for Ukiyoe). The facade doesn’t seem to tell us a history rather it could tell us modern feeling and I like such contrast. This museum(Sumida Hokusai Museum) was designed by SANAA. You might have heard because it one of the well known team in the field of architecture in the word. I like their taste so they always take me to unique facade never seen before. At this time, two exhibitions had been held. One is permanent exhibition(for Hokusai) and another one is featured exhibition named “Kazuyo Sejima(SANAA) x Hokusai”. I’ll put featured one on following contents. Let’s check it out.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Since this facade is quite beautiful, I walked around museum before in, and shot many pictures. Then I put the most cool one.. don’t you think this edge of corner is lovely. haha

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Dozens of people were walking into big slit or it can be called crack on the exterior wall. How looks inside will be.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Whoop, light comes from over crack on opposite wall and it reflected in the inside glass. Honestly, I didn’t expect this scene and it was beyond my expectation.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

People who was walking next to museum also seems interested in “triangle slit”.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Once you enter this museum, we have to go observation floor in 4th where we supposed to start seeing works in this museum. There are several seats installed. At first I didn’t find these are made of styrofoam and wasn’t mounted on the floor.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

The museum’s model showed up as part of featured exhibition at this time. I’m going to tell you a several study process by following images.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Many study of shapes laying out. There was a description on the wall to tell how design went forward.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Floor study. Umm geometric..

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Stacking models. I wonder how many models made up for.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Scale 1/20. Surely you can see more detail in more scaled up models.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

I went down to lower floor through this smooth star.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

The space for second featured exhibition. There are several models which are designed by SANNA.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

Sometimes I take picture with no reason behind. Just want to.

Sumida Hokusai Museum

The sky over my head was blue so good for taking picture.

I couldn’t put picture for Ukiyoe’s floor because it wasn’t allowed to take photo so.. Anyway hope you find how good this museum was including facade. I can tell you that it easy to access to this museum and you can rarely meet like this museum even in Tokyo so I recommend to put this museum on your plan. I touched a bit about the route on the half of this article but again; Remember the regular route starts from 4th floor and down to lower floor to see, means you’re going to take elevator after buying ticket at first floor.
