Feel distinctive art space Watari-Um Museum of Contemporary Art

The watari museum of Contemporary Art

This museum is focusing on artist who works in around the world. At this time I went there to see Sion Sono’s works Sion Sono The art space of this building consists of 3 floors(2 ~ 4F) and all floors are dedicated to exhibition. Let’s trip into this museum.

The watari museum of Contemporary Art

Right after you step in, you can see the ticket counter on your left side after get in.

By the way taking photo isn’t allowed in this building, the same goes for exhibition but this time was an exception. I told by receptionist at ticket counter. You will have to check if it’s ok in your turn’s exhibition as I did.

We’re supposed to take elevator to see around the works. Each floor isn’t big so won’t lost the order to see. Well, there’s no order so you can go back and forth actually.

The watari museum of Contemporary Art

This is the first view in 2nd floor. Once looked at left side, bunch of silhouettes on screen(shoji screen) jumped into my eye. Every time this museum offers unique spatial structure and make my day.

From different angle. There were mysterious whisper sound(can be intentional white noise) and good smell(maybe wood and paper used for material) in this space.

Space structure that nicely took advantage of height. One thing that I think fun in this museum is that the space is not only spreading horizontally but also vertical.

The watari museum of Contemporary Art

I found tiny hole on screen. As if it told me look inside ASAP. This type of gimmick lures me and couldn’t help to peep in.

The watari museum of Contemporary Art

Umm, certainly I was able to see something similar to clock but what is this? hahaha.

Took this picture in the same 4th floor. There are tons of storyboards on the wall and literally being played it with monitor.

These yellow boxes were appeared in his short movie. It seemed this interior was reproducing movie’s world.

As last picture, taking photo with ticket for museum. I always try to take photo with ticket at least one shot because it can be something good after everything done.

Location wise, this museum is bit way off from Shibuya where you would stop and move around at least once while you are in Japan but it’s not possible to walk down to this museum from Sibuya. In fact I went that way on the way to home. (walked from the museum to Shibuya)

Once you arrive at this museum unique exhibition will welcome you with cool goods store and cafe. If you’re building your wish list to go in Japan, how about add this museum to it? I think it’s worth to go and see.
