TRIP INTO JAPAN.
Art & Architecture

Even many years went away, the beauty is still there

St Mary’s Cathedral

This object blue sky behind with sharp edge makes this architecture into dignified and you would find the difference from other. This is cathedral. I haven’t shown cathedral in this blog but I was thinking I want to tell you St Mary’s Cathedral someday because even though 50 years passed since completed, it still cool and one another reason is Tange Kenzo designed and If you see it from above, it shape of cross. Can’t take photo though.haha. Let’s take a look.

St Mary’s Cathedral

The frontage of cathedral is soared to sky. Simple yet tightened shape looks exactly to be cathedral. Can’t believe the age of architecture because still I was overwhelmed.

St Mary’s Cathedral

You see the hyperbolic paraboloid shell roof. How would I feel when I step in.

St Mary’s Cathedral

Inside. Looking around and breath deeply. Whereas exterior is made of stainless, interior wall is made of undressed concrete. I like the contrast between them. Very quiet and legitimate atmosphere reminds me of meditation.

St Mary’s Cathedral

Beautiful space from another angle.

St Mary’s Cathedral

Light comes from vertical long window and pipe organ brings out here is cathedral. How sacred place I was in. By the way when I arrived, someone’s wedding was going for a while :)

St Mary’s Cathedral

Many people also visited like I did and spent whatever they wanted as if trying away from daily routine things.

St Mary’s Cathedral

There is bell next to cathedral. Higher than around building so I think its sound would echo throughout town to ring out god’s voice.

St Mary’s Cathedral

I wanted to touch surface to check material so walked toward to. It stainless steel ish and I was surprised that unlike I thought it is familiar material.

St Mary’s Cathedral

Looking upward, the blue covered me today. Feeling good.

I don’t go to cathedral often. Actually this was the first time except someone’s wedding party in another cathedral. Said that I had heard many times this architecture since I started studying architecture at University but didn’t have opportunity for some reasons. Maybe I have many place where I want to visit? anyway when you were in Tokyo, it would be worth to drop in especially you want to stay away from noise of the city. You can get both calmness and beautiful structure at the same time.br

Winter around the corner. Let’s walk around and heading to somewhere beautiful place under shine.
