Someone who visits my blog should’ve thought Japanese architecture like above I guess. Your imagination is now around the corner. This place is actually used to be a public bath called “Sento” in Japanese and now it’s running as an art gallery. Scai the bathhouse where takes you to decades ago. See what you can feel.
Took one shoot in front of door. White cloth has many slits is called “Noren”. Being hung on to tell us a status whether open or closed. If you see it above the door means “open”.
Oops, I found gallery name on the door light. Cool detail. I want to see it in the night again haha.
Let’s open the door. History gives classic feeling to me.
Open! There are many brochures on the wall for related exhibitions. Seems lively and popular place to exhibitions.
Turn left. Shoe boxes are installed on the wall, obviously not available but..
Somehow it’s intriguing me so took close up picture. I found nostalgia over design, material and number made of spray.
Look at the checkered pattern floor made of tile. It’s has alignment and packed neatly. Also color combination reminds me of my old days. My parents’ house would have a similar one in the bathroom.
Check out the handle but you catch a glimpse of interior over glass don’t you.
Step into inside. Since function changed from public bath to gallery space, there is no bathtub and related items.
In other words, this phrase fits to tell “hollow to bring out works”. When I was there, even though small works was standing out thanks to not silent interior.
See room from inner left corner.
I almost forgot to look up at the ceiling. It seems beam hasn’t changed since the old days. I wonder why the big windows installs on the top. for bathroom fan? maybe.
One thing that I am trying to find at art room is if there is brochures in English and it passed today as well. haha.
Sign on the wall. Strong typeface is standing out.
Taking a picture would hit the spot for a sunny day like today.
Nowadays it’s hard to make a business only run public bath. I think the main reasons are lack of successors and decreasing demand in general so that this renovation isn’t rare to this industry. If you want to take a feeling both nostalgia and Japanese old days from architecture, here is good for you because even after turned functionality, still you could find many history from preserved details.
